The Idea

Personal portraits – whether it’s an individual person or a family, the trusted team, the chief executive, a favourite pet or the new patchwork relationship: outstanding contemporary artists will interpret them to the specifications of the customer each in their particular style.

History

What is chic? Over the centuries, portrait artists didn’t just reflect but also defined the style of their era. At first, their customers were only the elite of international society, but from the 19th century onwards the bourgeoisie discovered the art form of custom-built paintings for themselves: the society portrait became popular in countless forms and varieties.

Realization

The Berliner Sippschaften agency (Sippschaft = clan or bunch) not only wants to revive this tradition, but also bring it up to date - in the city that has, after the cultural fresh cell therapy of recent times, turned into the metropole with the largest hipness factor throughout Europe - wide-ranging creative potential finally meets customer-orientated service here too. On board are artists that are renowned way beyond the city limits, whose styles range from black and white caricatures to soft water colour paintings to full-on acrylic or oil-saturated sprees. From screen printing to photography, from Pop Art to abstract, from joyful-expressive children’s scenes up to gloomy ancestor parodies, there will be no restrictions on either the style or the target audience here. A unique work will be created in three to eight weeks, for the home or the office, as a gift, as a reminder or for representational purposes to brighten up the walls, and one that definitely invites close inspection, admiring comments and communication! In our showroom we are presenting numerous styles and examples.
